18 Benefits of Playing a Musical Instrument
"As you can see, playing a musical instrument has many benefits and hopefully that will motivate you to keep on practicing and always hold music in high esteem. Whenever you come across challenges as a musician, think about the end results and always remind yourself of all the great reasons you love to play."
Characteristics of Advanced Students: List 4
Hang in there - insist on 100%
Understand that mistakes are teachers. Expect 1000 mistakes for every new skill.
Music motivates you. (Not graduation.)
Practice with passion.
Constantly looking for more.
Let the most challenging section determine the tempo for the entire piece.
Characteristics of Advanced Students: List 3
Understand that knowledge + 10,000 times = skill
Practice with a metronome and with marching.
"I am the one." It's all about you!
Break problems down into easy possible steps.
Tune slowly and carefully at every practice.
Practice so you can't get it wrong.
Characteristics of Advanced Students: List 2
Sing first, then play.
Always play with a specific focus.
Let the bow touch the string ONLY when you are excited.
Know all the notes, rhythms, bowings before a class or rehearsal.
Expect to play the sound that you want to hear.
Characteristics of Advanced Students: List 1
Here is a list developed by violinist, David Strom.
I am going to try to put these nuggets up in small sets weekly or so for the beginners and intermediates to learn to think and act and eventually become like advanced students!
- Practice slowly - never faster than easy.
- Get ready carefully.
- Never give up.
- Don't whine or complain.
- Practice in small nuggets - then put into context.
- Practice to make easy, practice to make clear.
